ETHNIC SKIN FACTS – E-BOOK

The reason I am writing a series of eBooks is because the skincare industry has shifted with licensed professional wanting more information on skin of color since ethnic skin was not introduce in the initial aesthetics curriculum.

Let’s look at some of the steps that will reduce risks and enhance results for your client. Treatment modalities should be customized to the client’s skin needs.

The following are steps to begin the process for a successful treatment outcome.

  • All clients should fill out an intake form/client history form to include medical history, prescription drugs, medicinal herbs, alcohol intake, cigarettes smoked per
day, family history, and their ancestral background.
  • Adequate time should be given for a thorough consultation.
  • Ask open-ended questions to discover their skincare goals (Do they just want a relaxing facial or do they have concerns about their skin?)
  • The skin analysis should be conducted to assess the skin type as well as the skin condition.
  • Weekly documentation is recommended.
  • A Treatment Plan should be discussed and recorded in the client’s records. Treatment plans are not set in stone. The follow-up appointment may show the need
for a treatment change. Remember the goal is to give the skin what it needs.
  • Release forms signed and dated (photographic, treatment consent form, chemical peel, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, micro-needling, etc.)
  • Home care products given tailored for their skin’s specific needs (be sure to include sunscreen).
